Graham and I bought Rise Hall back in 2001. We have a huge passion for British heritage and were so excited to have the opportunity to not only rescue an important ‘at risk’ building but to create a new future for it.

The Hall was built by architects Watson and Pritchett between 1815 and 1820 for the High Sheriff of Yorkshire, Richard Bethell. It remained the Bethell family seat until after the Second World War when it was leased to St Philomenas Convent School. After the school closed, the house stood empty and in an increasingly derelict state until we bought it.

Following an extensive, expensive and painstaking restoration, much of which was documented on the show Sarah Beeny’s Restoration Nightmare we completed the main house in 2013.

As well as a much loved family home, Rise Hall is now a unique and beautiful wedding and events venue, providing a gorgeous setting for all manner of occasions, large and small. We’re extremely proud of the work that we, together with an incredible team, have achieved here. Above all, we wanted this fabulous building to be filled with love, laughter and fun. We hope that anyone visiting it will find it as magical as we do.
